So in this post I’m tempted to ramble on about how much I love the Swedish band, The Cardigans. But, that’s not really the point of my blog…so I’d better get back to it!
The humble cardigan is a staple of my wardrobe. It’s cute with a pencil skirt, will warm up a sleeveless dress or dress down something more elegant for daytime. Now, there’s no doubt that without a little attention a cardigan can be a bit scruffy. But that’s what accessories are for!
I popped into the Age NI shop in Shaftesbury Square last week for a wander. It’s a hidden gem in Belfast! Most items are £2 and under which is how I came about these pretty cardigans for the princely sum of £4. Brand new they would have probably cost around £80 combined and they are in wonderful, barely used condition. There’s a great range of skirts, trousers and knitwear in the shop.
I always try to pick up charity shop treats that I know will work with what I’ve already got in my wardrobe. I thought that both of these cardigans would look cute with a plain black high-waisted skirt and a mix of modern and vintage accessories.
Belts are great to cinch the waist and make cardigans look more elegant. They can also add a splash of colour. Vintage jewellery adds sparkle giving the most modern print or fabric a glamorous hint of a bygone era. And shoes can make the whole look sing!
So, if you do happen upon a humble bargain cardi, no matter how unassuming it looks, give it a go with some skinny jeans, a pencil skirt or a pretty dress. You can make it work for you with a bit of imagination!
